What is Himalayan Rock Salt?

Himalayan Pink Salt is a salt that is mined from Punjab Pakistan. This iron riched hard mined salt is derived from deeply layered deposits formed by the ancient sea. Once covered in lava this salt was protected from the elements for many years, which is known to be of the purest form, free of pollutants and outside elements.

The composition of this pink colored salt is 95% or more sodium chloride with traces of 80 minerals such as, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Phosphorus, and Sulphate that can be found in the human body.

It is argued that the amounts of these minerals are so minute that the benefits are insignificant. The ketogenic diet recommends the use of Himalayan sea salt over other salts. Keto  OS, for example, flushes out body salts so replenishing them with required electrolytes is important.

Why is Himalayan Rock salt good for you?

It is said that HP salt has many benefits such as, Powerful electrolytes that keep you hydrated, help thyroid, adrenal, and immune function, elements that help to absorb nutrients, Anti-aging benefits, balance PH levels. It helps with sinus and respiratory health. decrease muscle cramps as well as promotes sleep and bone strength.

Also known to clean cells, regulate blood pressure, support hormone function which may help with libido, reproductive issues. Improve nerve function and the risk of developing osteoarthritis and kidney disease. Much of the benefits are for external use as a bath salt. Aids in skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis, prevents and heals aching muscles and joints.

Many argue that some of these minerals such as Lead, Thallium, Radium, Arsenic, Aluminum, and Mercury among others are dangerous to our health. That said, you can find these minerals in much of our foods, Epsom salt, cosmetics, and the water we drink.

So where do we draw the line?

Many of the “bad” trace minerals are as minute as >0.01ppm. Of course, lead builds up and can never break down so any lead ingested is harmful.

The dangers of these toxic minerals do the opposite to our health, causing issues with the central nervous system, the kidneys, and the immune system.

Although these salts are FDA regulated, Use your own judgment. I personally will continue to use HPS, even though the benefits go unnoticed. However, I do prefer the taste over table salt and love how my skin feels after a bath.

The amount of sodium on a daily intake is 1 1/2 tsp per day. Using a grinder for this rock salt may help decrease salt intake.

So why is table salt white?

Table salt is refined. It comes from the sea, lake beds that have dried up by the sun. You will often see similar salt beds out on the prairies or around lakes. This is what gets mined and brought in to be bleached of all toxins and pollutants. This process strips the salt of all trace minerals that could be present but often left behind as the true minerals are deep in the dirt layer that is not collected. Table salt has added anti-clumping compound as the fine, refined salt will clump in stagnant or humid conditions.
