Allison Creek Falls Hike In Crowsnest Pass

Everything you need to know about hiking to Allison Creek Falls

Allison Falls is 2.6 km and is a somewhat new hike recently added to the All Trails app. It has been a popular falls hike for Ice climbers but really wasn’t well known, even by many locals. Due to being a newer trail, the path is a bit sketchy in some areas. I highly recommend good grip waterproof hikers and/or a pair of water shoes to cross the water.

Follow directions via All Trails map. Take the road up to Chinook Lake day area. It’s a bit tricky to find if you don’t read signs as we did. Take a left at Allison Creek Day area once you cross a cattle guard.

Once at Chinook Lake walk to the right towards the lake, through a little beach area and continue around the lake until you come to a damn.

Cross over the damn and hang a right and follow the road around the corner to an open path on the left. Shown below.

You’ll know you are on the right path when you enter the path and see the Tee-pee made from deadfall set up.

Interesting pieces of drift wood around

Wildflowers are abundant in the lush forest.

Stop and snap of photo of the beautiful colorful array of mountain flowers along the trail.

The trail follows along the creek where the rushing water is soothing to the soul.

There is a few obstacles along the way where good footing is essential.

Once you see this smaller waterfall the path leads around where it can be a bit daunting.

A tricky section. If you choose not to scale the creek wall the safer bet is to cross the creek at this point.

First creek crossing

I chose to take my shoes off and cross the frigid creek than chance a slip into the water.

2nd creek crossing

It was mighty cold, I swear another 30 seconds my feet would be stiff. But the 30 seconds after the fact thawing felt so refreshing.

The finale! You have reached the Allison Creek Falls. It was so worth the effort where my patients and skills were tested but I pushed through it and so proud of another hike under my belt. As many times as I wanted to quit, I never do. Always a great reward at the end of every hike.

After the hike:

Enjoy the rest of the day with lunch by the lake, grab the rope and try out the tree swing, or kayak around the lake taking in the wonderful views that surround you.
