Blue Rock Creek Ridge Loop hike

Blue Rock Creek in Fall

Blue Rock Loop Hike

Blue Rock Creek is located on the scenic Hwy 546, in the Sheep River valley. The hike is noted as a 1.8 km hike however we added a bit to our hike which was a 2.5km hike as shown below.

Blue Rock loop hike is family-friendly, to clarify it is a ridge walk so keeping children close and dogs on a leash are important.

The Hike

Firstly, take a walk to view the wonderful tiered creek bed. Colors of the weathered down rocks vary on the season as fall had more of a bluer hue to it than in spring with the higher water levels. Beautiful nonetheless.

Take the stairs up to the ridge and follow path that leads to the campground. Hit the road and take a left as you will see another Blue Rock Creek sign. Stay on the trail to the left if you wish to view the cliffs and the valley below.

There is a trail that takes you down to the backside of the creek down to the water’s edge however caution is recommended as it is steep with slip sections.

Trickling water down from a tree trunk

Follow the path through the forested trail where a few little streams drop in from some of the weirdest places such as tricking down off a tree stump pictured above. The sounds of the streams are so tranquil therefore adding to the beauty of this hike.

The Ridge

The ridge trail with the water below ends when you come to the open grassy patch. The views are stunning with the sounds of the thundering creek below. Here the trail loops back through the trees. A great place to find a seat on a log to have a break. Take this time to look around as there are some cool objects to photograph.

The path opens up to the valley with tremendous panoramic views shown above.

Conclusion

Continue down the trail back to the campground leading back down the stairs. Follow the trail under the bridge where the creek meets the river. We followed some trails there which brought us back to our vehicle parked on the side of the hwy. Hope you enjoy your hike!
